#19 The Hot Chocolate 15K [#27ThingsforMY27thYear]

If you’ve been following SeeSondraSlim, you know my big mission these days is knocking 27 tasks off a list I created to commemorate my 27th year on Planet Earth.

In order to achieve this, obviously I have to do at least two things a month (sometimes 3) from this most auspicious list!

March 7th, the list kicked off with my Sunrise Hike up Cowles Mountain, and this today, I’ve officially completed #19: The Hot Chocolate 15K. I’m a little terrified admittedly. I have completed a few 5K’s so far, but never anything longer. However, if you’re familiar with this particular race, you know there is historically always an adorable hoodie and a pot of melted chocolate for you at the finish line. Bonus: 15K racers got an awesome medal that looks like a partially wrapped chocolate bar!

I was really fortunate to have two amazing ladies with me to cross the finish line! I love you, Ashley and Kalyca!

I set out knowing that this would be tougher for me, being that I’m more of a “stretch yourself into awkward positions for exercise” type of girl, but I am proud to say that we killed that course, even if we weren’t the fastest or most athletic group out there!

Turns out, I finished in 2:31:13….not bad for walking a LOT of it, and all those Downtown SD hills!

I got to the finish line, and learned they were OUT of medals.

Yeah, you read that right. One of the major reasons I went from doing comfy 5K runs was to get a damn medal! And nooooo. I get there, and there are like 4 conflicting stories as to why there isn’t one for me.

Fortunately, one competent event facilitator was able to tell me that there was a list we could add our names to, and they’ll be mailed to us. So, that’s why there is no blackboard photo this time. But, I still have some good ones:

Unfortunately, I didn’t find a photo of myself on my stats page, which is what held up this post so long. However, you can watch this awesome video of me crossing the finish line!

Moral of the story? You can accomplish anything. If I can do a 15K, and still walk the entire week after, it’s not hard. LOL.

Set some goals that you never thought you could achieve before. Go ahead and surprise yourself….it’s worth every bit of effort, I promise!

2014 Bucket List!

Boy oh boy.

2013 was a total blur…and full of happiness, success, surprises, and so much more!

As I go into 2014, I feel like I have set the bar really, super, extremely high…and that makes me more excited than nervous!

So, as always, here goes another Sondra Bucket List full of wishes, dreams, and planning for the New Year:

1. Attend my brother’s college graduation in Connecticut.
2. Put a deposit on a trip to Italy (deadline: travel by Fall 2015)
3. Visit my dad in Florida once he gets stationed there in the Spring.
4. Look into Brachioplasty (excess skin removal of the upper arms)
5. Launch the SeeSondraSlim brand in a bigger way (new logo, cover photo, and signature coming soon! Plus, I am working on my time management and will have SeeSondraSlim “office hours!”)
6. Take Sean on a trip to Las Vegas, NV (we have never been together)
7. Go to Disneyland during Christmas time (our plans have been thwarted by finances the last two years. Sad face).
8. Get more “fit.” As in, I want to tone more than lose at this point…but I have NO idea what I am doing with weights!
9. Regularly attend the classes offered at my gym. All that money I spend, and I’m using the treadmill and rowing machine only?
10. Master Italian with my Rosetta Stone…I was brilliant and got a tablet without a cd-rom reader and cannot use it.
11. Attend the Italian language Meet-Up group in my neighborhood to practice said Rosetta Stone education with real people.
12. Purchase Le Creuset items to complete my fantasy kitchen line-up
13. Register for and complete another 5K race. I’m thinking a Warrior Dash or maybe that Glow Run?
14. Organize my room…that way maybe I’ll be more prepared for the move looming in the near future (maybe start with replacing my closet light that’s been out for 6 months?)
15. Do more community service. There are SO many opportunities…and I act like I don’t have enough time. But I can make time somewhere for doing something GOOD.
16. Make more time for ME. If that means a day alone, finding a retreat no one knows about, and just having tea with myself…I think it’s high time I make it happen.
17. Be a better friend. I lost touch with a lot of closeness and people this year, because I have been so overwhelmed. Time to rekindle those connections and show I care.
18. Invest in my education. Have I made a concrete decision as to what or where I want to study? No. But I am 25…give me a break. I’m trying to pay my bills! 🙂
19. Maintain my Household Planner I made this year….and then promptly forgot to update.
20. Hit my goal weight! 180 has seemed so impossible for so long….fluctuating between 190 and 210 since surgery (thanks, swelling and exercise restrictions) showed me how possible it is to keep those pesky pounds at bay, and that it’s really not THAT far away…considering I started at 315-320 pounds anyways!

That’s my list of semi-realistic expectations for the year to come, and I plan on sticking to it!

What are YOU adding to your 2014 Bucket Lists this year? I’d love to know!

‘Til Next Time!
XOXO

What I’ve Been Up To…

Oh, hey! It’s you! The people I adore and haven’t updated in what seems like forever!

Well, here I am. And I am ready to share my recent escapades with you all!

October was a thrilling, although challenging month.

I did my first 5K…and chose a Mud Run, because I am out of my mind. Ashley and I had tanks made that read “You wish your girl was this dirty!” and had a blast taking on the 5K and the various obstacles it included. Most important lesson I learned? Rope swings and I? We don’t mesh. Lol. Overall, it was a great day! From getting there early and collecting free swag from all the sponsor booths, to the run itself, to my first Acai bowl after? A PURE BLAST! Shout out to Ashley for being such a great running buddy, and being so patient with me!

Before the race started….

After!!!

Ooooh! One of the best things? When we were going around to all the booths, iTan was there, and we spun the wheel and won FREE sun, spray, and spa services! I won a month, and Ash won a week! I just recently realized that it said it was valid until 10/31….so I need to call about that! But I am suuuuper excited! I have been wanting to try a lot of the spa services there, so I will get to see what works for me, and get my VersaSpa on! Woot woot!

They posted our photo on their Facebook. You can go “Like” iTan here.

I love spinning prize wheels!!!!!

I was also lucky enough to be on an episode of The Doctors, and walk away with a TON of free swag!! I also made a new friend, who I keep up with on Facebook!

What has Sondra ALWAYS wanted?

I almost cried I was so happy! This machine is so versatile and so durable! It is JUST what a girl like me needs to keep on keeping on in the quest for ultimate nutrition and fitness. And I am anxiously awaiting the day it arrives in the mail, at which point I will probably cry again! 🙂

This was just one of the awesome gifts. In addition to my VitaMix blender, I also walked away with:

2 SeaWorld tickets

A free pair of Skechers GoWalk shoes

A free one hour massage or facial at Hand and Stone Spa

Dancing with the Stars Cardio Dance DVD

Mandisa’s (from American Idol season 5) latest cd (and she taught us a fun fitness dance routine she made up)!

A Hoopnotica DVD and hoop

It was AMAZING!

If that wasn’t good enough, Dr. Travis stood in front of me for a very awkward 4-5 mins, at which point I was trying to look anywhere but at his hiney. It was not easy, and the women in the audience were of no help! They were hooting and giggling, and it was hilarious! He apologized a few times, and at one point, you can see me behind him!

Shout out to my friend Jackie for catching me on DVR so I could check myself out! Lol.

I really had a prime seat. I got to watch myself on DVR a few days later, while I was home sick, and I realized I got a LOT of screen time!

This gentleman lost a LOT of weight, and became a trainer. He’s written a book about changing your mindset and acheiving your fitness goals. We also got to take a copy of that home! I highly recommend checking out “Think Thin, Grow Thin” by Charles D’Angelo.

Speaking of motivational people, a friend of mine from high school has an awesome fitness blog, and is putting together a 5/10K event next year. If you haven’t yet, you need to go check out my friend Alicia (we have the same birthday, so I can pretty much guarantee she is AWESOME), and her blog FitGirlLifestyle. Recipes, tips, and more for those of us looking to malke better habits a daily thing! You can like her on Facebook too, where she is always posting fun inspiration!

What else, what else? Oh yes! Karaoke night with the coworkers, and planning a babyshower for a good friend. Getting sick for an entire week….and then of course, there was Halloween at the office!

If you haven’t already figured it out, I should tell you that I will always find a way to add a tutu to something. I would wear a tutu with my scrubs everyday, if they’d let me! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to convince them to let me wear real pants, so I’m thinking it’s best to avoid the tutu proposition altogether. I will wear a tutu around the office the day before Christmas, though. There will be no discussion about it! Lol. Also, Ashley is the best duck-taper I have ever met. Seriously….look at those shirts! And the back of them? Mine said “They work hard for my honey!” and theirs said “We work hard for the honey!” We totally won the department costume contest. Free Subway always tastes better, FYI.

I think that’s all for now. I will get 30 day challenge photos up tomorrow.

For now, I shall leave you with some late night motivation/inspiration!

That’s all loves! Have a fabulous night, and I’ll be back soon!

‘Til Next Time!

XOXO

30 Day Challenge Update…and a Small Favor to Ask!

Hey there, lovelies!

So, life is crazy as usual, and I can’t complain. 🙂

This past weekend, I had Sean snap a few 30 Day Challenge photos for me lately:

Front View

Side view….only ONE ROLL! WOOO!

Big deal of the week? Sean and I participated in the Ben Bridge San Diego Diamond Dash this past weekend, and had a BLAST racing around the Gaslamp Quarter searching for clues to get points, and win an A. Jaffe $14,000 diamond engagement ring.

Bad news? We didn’t win. Good news….all is not lost! A. Jaffe is hosting a facebook photo contest! They took our photobooth shots and put them in a Facebook album. The couple with the most “likes” wins a gorgeous diamond heart-shaped pendant! PLEASE go cast your “like” and help us win! I promise our photos are up there on the cute scale…and we would be so excited to win SOMETHING! ANYTHING! Lol. Click here to be re-directed to our photo and you’re one “like” away from being on our list of favorite things! If you really love us, you can hit that snazzy “Share” button, and invite your friends to help us too! Make sure, if you do share, to let people know to click the link from your page to get to the photo….or the vote won’t count!

The challenge was too much fun.

Game Face! I’m kind of a beast! WIN! WIN! WIN!

Note to self…even if you’re gonna run until your sweat clouds your vision….a little tinted moisturizer coulda worked wonders here! #pickygirlproblems

LOVE HIM! And her…lol.

Killer Couple ❤

The official event photographer, Liz James put together a slideshow on YouTube with tons of fun and hilarious action shots you can check out here!

In all honesty, no one really walked away a loser. This was a totally free event…free shirts, radio stations were out playing music and doing giveaways, the Tin Fish restaurant catered amazing food for everyone after the race and kept the cold water bottles coming, and Ben Bridge gave us all swag bags! Re-usable swag tote bags with free stuff (you know I love me some free stuff!), and the fun Sean and I had working together made it all worth it(even though he was a littttle pissed that we forgot to get more change for the parking meter and kinda got a ticket. Oops. I’ll be paying that on Friday. Damn City regulations. Who allows only 2 hrs at a time for paid parking, anyways!?!?!). Not to mention….killer trial run for the Del Mar Mud Run next weekend! Try and stop me!!!!

Speaking of which, I got an awesome present in the mail from my dad today….

A NEW CAMELBAK BAG!!!

I have wanted one of these nifty contraptions for quite some time now, but have been too cheap to buy myself one. My dad decided to be nice and sent me one that they gave him on the ship for free, and I am so excited to use it on Cowle’s Mountain, hiking in Julian, and maybe even for the SD Half Marathon! I LOVE THIS STUFF! And you’re talking about a girl who lives for Forever 21 Sales, glitter nail polish, and red lipstick. What a difference a year and 105 lbs makes, huh?

I think that is all for now, but I wanted to check in quickly and let you all know what I have been up to. Looks like someone you know may be on television soon…but more on that later. Just know it’s a BIG show, and could be a BIG deal!

I shall leave you with this photo, of something Sean and I encountered downtown this weekend on our way to the race:

Yeah. That just happened.

A guy was walking his dog…except, his dog can run his own barbie car. As if that wasn’t great enough? He has personalized plates. My kinda guy!

Thank you everyone for all the love and support, and pleeeeeease vote for Sean and I! It’d be awesome to win the diamond pendant!

Here’s to a wonderful rest of the week…we deserve it!

‘Til Next Time!

XOXO

Run Like Someone is Chasing You.

Ok, so I have two big runs coming up in the future, both near and far.

As I was running on the treadmill today, I realized that I am slightly terrified. I mean, I am sweating gallons trying to run constantly without the 2:2 intervals anymore…and so far, I am succeeding for the most part. I need the occasional minute or two to speedwalk…just to regulate my heart rate and catch my breath!

Here is what I am trying to do:

But still….I am doing the Del Mar Mud Run in less than a month…and that’s 3 miles that I want to run as much as I possibly can….in mud! You can check out the event here. I will not only be getting dirty (and I mean, I don’t LIKE being dirty. I just barely accepted being ridiculously sweaty, for crying out loud), but I have to try to make decent time in my first actual running event, you know! It’s about having fun…but for me, it’s also about accomplishing something I have always wanted to be good at.

On the 22nd of this month, Sean and I will be competing in the Ben Bridge Diamond Dash. While this is not an actual run, I still feel it warrants mentioning, because it’s basically a big San Diego scavenger hunt to find a $14,ooo diamond ring! Yeah, you read that right. $14,000 diamond engagement ring. Nice to know someone can still be super generoud for no reason in this economy, right?!?! So, Sean and I applied as a team and were accepted…and Alex and Josh did too! This will be fun! You can check out the Diamond Dash here, and if you’re in San Diego, Portland, OR or Los Angeles…you should apply to be a part of the chaos and fun!

The most important race I have to train for is the San Diego Half Marathon next year, in March. 13,1 miles of determination. Check out the crazy awesome interactive course map here….and wish me luck!! Also, if you’re in the area and want to participate….the more the merrier!

I am still trying to figure out whether I will try to wiggle in my excess skin removal surgery before then, or just keep training and go in strong…and do the surgery around Spring Break time after the race. It seems the general consensus is that 4-6 weeks off will be necessary to recover, and I just don’t wanna lose that kind of time pre-race.

I feel like these running events are something I’d really enjoy doing a few times a year to keep me motivated, and to keep me proud of myself…and for that, I am excited and thrilled!

But man….when I’m that treadmill? I just feel sort of like dying. Thank goodness for my Workout Mix, chock full o’ hip hop, and Glee tracks!!!

In other news, Sean and I have began Sunday juicing, and we buy TONS of fresh fruit and veggies. We made almost 200 oz of juice this past weekend, and I bought these awesome carafes at Bed, Bath and Beyond and brought one to Ashley. That is our new breakfast/energy boost….complete with a sprinkling of chia seeds! It’s good to know I am getting my fruits and veggies, and the energy level is definitely there…so it’s great!

I am still a smoothie girl! Check out this AWESOME infographic I found on pinterest:

Admit it. It’s amazing!

This infographic led me to a new blog/site that I am currently obessed with! SuperSkinnyMe. Another awesome post on there is the Beginner’s Running Program, that is a must-read if you have any type of running aspirations: whether you are trying to get back into running, or you’re like me, and just forming a new addiction!

Another awesome infographic I found on SSM?

Running 101…we can ALL use this!

I am certainly going to do my best to implement all this new information in my training from now on. Also, I joined this awesome active/social website called VaVi that lists training clubs and events for your zip code…and I am hoping to find a group nearby that will motivate me to hit the pavement on the weekends for further training, as well!

This should be fun!

I think that’s the juice as far as updates are concerned. I think I’ll have new 30- day photos up this weekend…and we shall see how that goes!

I hope everyone is having an amazing week so far, and that it continues to be such!

I shall leave you with a smile:

TRUTH!

‘Til Next Time!
