Rants, Adventures…and a 30 Day Challenge Update!

I swear, the faster the year goes by, the less time I seem to have! I am trying to juggle life lately, and while I haven’t shut myself in a closet and hidden from the world at this point….I have considered the idea frequently.

So it goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyways: I apologize for the delay!

This will be yet another modge-podge post, made up of photos and anecdotes since we last spent some time together.

Adventures as of Late:

Keys Creek Lavender Farm!

Sean and I finally made it to the Lavender Farm! I was so beyond thrilled, words cannot describe. The sweetest woman was in the gift shop, and shared tons of info with us. I am interested in using the farm as a venue in the distant future, and had just wanted to check it out since I have heard GREAT things….Sean and I are big lavender fans. I came home with a fragrant lavender candle, and a cute little lavender sachet that is hanging in my closet making things smell wonderful! YES!

Big Football Fans…and the Bolts WON!

If you ever wondered what Field Level Season Tix look like….

Alex and I surprised the boys with tickets to the Pre-Season Chargers vs. Cowboys game. Josh is a huge Cowboys fan, and Sean grew up watching and adoring the Chargers. As you can imagine, grins were everywhere! Also, Sean lives two exits from the stadium, and yet somehow it took FORTY minutes to get there. UGH. Anyways, first half had my spirits down (as usual, the Chargers forgot how to play momentarily), but then….things were looking up in the second half, and we WON!

After the game, we headed to Slaters 50/50 Burgers by Design in Point Loma, and I had a lettuce wrapped turkey burger with roasted peppers, cheddar, chipotle mayo, tomatoes, and pickles. I would share a photo….but I was too hungry to take one before digging in! And no…I didn’t finish it. Lol.

Hash House a Go-Go in Hillcrest…..the pancake is the size of my former stomach!

Brian’s 24 in Downtown San Diego…this is a TWO EGG BREAKFAST! Holy Hotcakes!

Sean and I have gone to the local hot-spot diners the past few weekends, and as you can see….we get far more than we bargained for (at a BARGAIN, no less). These two wonderfully hip SD establishments have delivered fresh, hot, and yummy breakfasts the size of my Jeep…and I like it! No, again. I never finish my food. And yes those sausages are the size of a chubby baby’s thigh!

It’s all about touching this sucker when you finally reach the top!

It’s an uphill climb….literally.

My gym buddy Ashley and I hit Cowle’s Mountain in San Diego for my first time last Tuesday (after prepping with a protein-packed pitstop in Pacific Beach for Taco Tuesday!), and it was amazing! The climb is 1,591 feet above sea level, and you can see pretty much all of San Diego from the peak. It was a great experience, and I cannot wait to do it again (add that to the list of reasons why North County and I need to part ways). It’s virtually ALL uphill, and then slippery and downhill on the way back, so it was like a jog down, and a climb up. My legs felt sore and hated me the next day….but of course we went to the gym at lunch regardless!

Fun and Happy Happenings:

Curly girl is back!

After many complaints about missing my natural curls, I decided “To heck with it!”, and they are back. And they are great, because Lord knows if I had to wear a shower cap or not be able to touch up my bangs after a workout again, I was probably going to lose my cookies!

Spinach, apple, orange, green grapes, red grapes….and I added some carrots too!

Juice-tastic! And lest we forget the amazingness that is the Blender Bottle (especially when it comes in hot pink…hello?!!)

Sean upgraded his (lightly-used) Black and Decker juicer for that fancy Breville juicer in the “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” documentary. So alas, I have a juicer now…and I went to Sprouts when I was done on campus and loaded up on some fresh fruits and veggies, and voila! JUICE! Yummy, full of vitamins and good-for-yous, and it’s quite filling. I am taking this batch to work tomorrow for my pre-gym boost, and I am excited! Tomorrow, I’ll pick up some berries and such and get this party started for real!

Found these on my desk….BEST BESTIE EVER!

I found these week before last on my desk upon returning from my lunchtime gym workout! NOT A BAD WAY TO START THE WEEKEND! But, then again, you all pretty much knew my Bestie is amazing, didn’t you?

Last but not least, 30 Day Challenge Update:

It’s totally been more than 30 days…but here goes nothing! As usual, forgive the quality. 🙂

GASP!!! Is that deifnition forming on that stomach??!?!?!

Side View…accidentally got the side that has two rolls, instead of the side with only one. SMH.

So, alas….while the number on the scale isn’t dropping as fast as before….I feel and look stronger when I see myself in the mirror. I am working hard to get my nutrition up to par, and keep these lunchtime runs going….San Diego Half Marathon next year, here I come!

It’s good to see the results when I am making a conscious effort to be fit, and stay fit. So, I just keep focusing on that, and eating dessert whenever the heck I feel like it (I bought ice cream at Target called “Monster Cookie.” It is PB ice cream with chocolate candies and oatmeal cookie chunks. Pretty much the devil in a carton, and I plan to have a scoop when I finish this, thank you very much!).

I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start, and that you all have a great rest of the week! Major thanks to all of those who follow and subscribe to the blog….whether you sign up on the page for email alerts when a new post is up, or you liked SeeSondraSlim on Facebook, your support is much appreciated! I don’t think I could’ve made it this far without each and every one of you!

Needless to say, this made my day!

Ahhh. The weekdays are over, and the weekend is almost upon us.

I have realized that having a desk job has been a major problem when it comes to my weight loss struggles. At Corky’s, there was always someone bringing in bagels, cookies, cupcakes, etc.

At my new job, my coworker and I are constantly moving and shaking, and next thing you know, it’s almost the end of those 12 hour work days, and all we want is some kettle-cooked potato chips. So she goes next door, and we get some. There are always cookies, candy, or something like that nearby. Patients bring us baked goods and little bags of treats….it’s insanity! And don’t get me started on those dang Girl Scouts and their demon cookies!! AHHH!

Left to my own devices, there’d just be my bottled water, protein shakes, Rockstar Hydration+Energy, and the occasional tall iced soy caramel macchiato.

But yet, here we are. And it’s time for a change! If I take the steps to keep myself from having these things in my grasp, and then imagine! I could be losing even faster! And, you know, after all this hard work….I don’t want to say that I eat a little bit of crap just because a little bit is all I have room for. It seems like a cop-out. My surgery was a tool to assist me, not an excuse to eat whatever I’d like.

And so, there it is: Out of sight, out of mouth.

I think I need to go back to my Mary Poppins ways and carry a surplus of healthier items in my purse. Also, I will leave my wallet in the car, so that I will not have easy acccess to my cash, therefore, I can’t readily go to the store (we are FAR too busy for all of that!). I really am trying to recognize certain detrimental behaviors, and correct them.So far, I have been doing pretty well.

I have attended Zumba 3 times this week (it would have been 4, had I not forgotten my gym bag at home last night! DOH!), and I feel the burn every single morning. Each night, it’s like the instructor is more intense than the last! But it’s so much fun, I never even realize that an hour has passed, and my shirts are soaked through! It’s a powerful feeling, and it’s really getting me through the hard times I have been having with lack of rest and lack of patience! Lol.

This year is already zooming by! I have printed all of the 24 hr fitness schedules through March and marked my calendar (because it is VERY hard for me to look at it, and NOT go!), my birthday is in 26 days, I am three lbs away from having lost 100 lbs total…..I’ve already been to the Emergency Room, filed my taxes, planned how to use my return, worked out religiously, entered a few contests, seen my blog make records, imported my old blog entries from blogspot to this blog….it’s shenanigans! And there is still so much to be done!

Hopefully all of you have a fabulous Friday, and a weekend that makes you feel wonderful! Next week will bring the next installment of the 30 Day Challenge, and I must say, I am realllllly excited to see if Zumba will bring some improvement to those photos!

‘Til Next Time!

Alllllll Byyyyy Myyyysellllllfffffff!

First, let me just share one hilarious tidbit of information with all of you.

Part of the awesome thing about my blog is the fact that I have the ability to monitor the traffic, clicks, and referrers to SeeSondraSlim. So, it will tell me that people have found me through search engines….and what terms they searched under to find me.

Today? I was found in a search for “nude black supermodel.”

You know…as disturbed as I was initally….I’ll take that! LOL! Notice there was no mention of the words ‘plus sized’ in there?

Moving on, I was listening to my Glee playlist earlier and heard “All By Myself,” Sunshine Corazon style, and it dawned on me: I am technically not alllll byyyyy myyyyyyself….anymoooooooooooore! HA! (I am just far too tickled by the fun I can have with this song, I tell you!)

I used to kinda hate going to Zumba, because I didn’t usually have anyone that I knew there with me. Now, I have made friends with some of the girls, and we have a blast messing up moves together with new instructors, and it’s like high school all over again walking out into the parking lot after! “Are you coming tomorrow night? With Rose? YAY! Ok! See you then!”

I have given in to the inevitable, and the formerly mentioned “StupidHead” and I are taking it day by day, but acknowledging our formerly un-mentioned admirations for each other ( did I mention that I really am not too great at relationships? As in, I’ll practically be in a relationship, and refuse to call it one? Taking it day by day….what does that even MEAN?) So, while I am not actually taken….I am not actually single either. Yikes.

I just got goosebumps. Holy cow.

Moving on!

I have made a few decisions in the quest to make it to 100 official pounds lost by the 15th of February.

1. I will continue to go to Zumba at least 3 times a week.

2. No more Starbucks.

3. No more fast food….unless it’s chicken salad from Chik-fil-A. Because some things just cannot be given up. Besides, total protein there!

4. Breakfast will be a protein shake every morning! No excuses!

5. It’s personal training time. My job is thinking of bringing a trainer into the office to work with us for a small fee each month….but I may just go ahead and get a package at 24 hr fitness, and then use that knowledge to continue on my own, since I’m already there most weeknights anyways.

These are the small, easy steps I plan to focus on this month. My birthday is March 1st, and I really want to meet and exceed this goal by then. 5 lbs isn’t so hard to lose, right??! Especially for a girl who can hardly eat more than 3 oz in a sitting.

My annual physical is on Valentine’s Day (scheduled like a true single girl. Smh.), and I am so excited to see my primary care doctor and show him all the benefits I have reaped from his referral to my surgeon last January! Also, I need him to start working on my notes for the plastic surgeon I plan to see next January. Say it with me: panniculectomy!

The year has just begun, and yet…..it’s already a month down! Time to kick it in high gear, and continue to make things happen! And seeing as January is already over…that means next week is the next installment of the 30 Day Challenge! AHHHH! Should be good times. 🙂

Maybe you will be able to see all the hard work I’ve been putting in with Zumba, eh? By the way, for all my local friends who read, if you’re a member of 24 hr fitness, you should totally go to Zumba with me! I go to the Vista Sport club M-w at 8:30 pm, Th at 8:30 am and sometimes Saturdays at 11 am. You won’t be able to walk properly the next day, but you won’t be sorry, either!

I hope everyone has a great night, and is as excited about this year as I am!

Walt Disney said it best: If you can dream it, you can do it.

Making An Impact (or, My Challenge to YOU).

Hello, Wonderful Readers!

I come before you today, asking you for help with a big project.

As you all know, I was inspired to create this blog after coming across Michele Vicari, aka Eggface when I began reseaching my weight loss surgery. Her blog post today truly inspired me, and I want to be a part of what she is doing….but with a little twist, perhaps.

First and foremost, please go read her post here.

Now, I have lost a total of 94 lbs since surgery. I will be putting together my 94 food items this week, in addition to donating my clothing that no longer fits. The fight against hunger is just as important as the fight against obesity. As a matter of fact, sometimes, they go hand in hand.

As a kid, my mom didn’t have a lot of money. After my parents divorced, times were pretty hard, and my dad was usually pretty hard to track down. My mom did her best, but sometimes, I can honestly say we lived on Top Ramen, and my brother and I got pretty excited to have PB& J in two jars, rather than the weird stuff that’s mixed together in one. We spent our summers at rec centers and churches for free lunch, and always made a bee-line to the lunch line during school for free lunch. We also got to school early everyday to be there in time for free breakfast. When my mom finally was approved for food stamps (which was extremely difficult for her, because she had a job….), we were finally able to have a little more. But when you get something you haven’t had in awhile, it doesn’t last very long. Juice, cookies, candy, chips, ice cream….all those things you can’t buy on a Top Ramen budget, but look forward to as a kid.

My mom did a lot to make sure we never went hungry. In actuality, there are kids who don’t even get Top Ramen or the weird Pb & J.  But I always had a fear that we wouldn’t have anything to eat. I was also raised to eat everything on my plate, because we just didn’t waste food, coming from that life. As a result, I got older, and ate everything on my plate way after I was full. I hoarded food, for fear that I might need it later, and when I was sad, depressed, lonely, or angry….I’d eat it all.

I try not to remember those days. I try to just thank God that I didn’t end up with diabetes. That I got to a point in high school where I packed salads with grilled chicken for lunch everyday, and quit drinking soda, and eating red meat. I am thankful to my aunt, for intervening when she saw I was still hoarding sweets out of habit, and helping me realize that I will always have a home, a bed, and a meal. I finally broke the food dependence….but couldn’t shake the weight.

For some, my journey seems so out of the blue. But I have to look back every day at the little girl wearing juniors clothes, the middle school girl wearing womens clothes…the girl who wasn’t sure if she was going to get lunch or not today. And that drives me to see forward to the healthy woman without a dependence or fear tied to food.

And so, here we are.

Here is my challenge to you.

Clean out your cupboards. Donate any non-perishable items to the food bank, red cross, or other programs in your neighborhood. Maybe there is someone you know who could really use it, and you’ve been meaning to get it to them. DO IT.

Clean out your closet. If you love it, and it used to fit…that’s wonderful. But it doesn’t fit anymore. Donate it to the shelters, the Goodwill, Amvets…..anywhere where your unused clothing can help fund a great cause or clothe someone in need.

I can pick up any donations in the North County area if you cannot make the trip for whatever reason. Please email me if that is the case. I will see if I can enlist help in the South County region as well.

I really want to highlight the impact of this project. If you can, please send photos of your piles of items to: Sondrajo14@hotmail.com

I will be doing a follow-up post for this project, and will use the photos to help persuade larger business entities to help me make this a bigger movement. I would just like to start close to home and see what we come up with first. By using photo documentation, it’s a fun way for out-of-state and International readers to help, too!

I really hope you’ll all take the time to join me on this project. With each of us making a small donation together, we can create a HUGE impact.

Let’s start this year off with a bright beginning…..creating beginnings for others!

Your support, inspiration, motivation, and help mean the world to me!

‘Til Next Time!
