Weekend Recap, and the Dreams of a (soon-to-hopefully-be) Runner.


I am having one of those days where I feel an insane urge to workout.

I lazily lounged around with my boyfriend this morning after being up until about 1 am, and I thought maybe I would go for a run this afternoon. Then of course, it started pouring. It is REALLY hard to remember I live in San Diego, California when it rains 3 days a week!

*Side Note: I was up so late because we had an AMAZING day! Sean took me to the coolest place called “Crazy Bowls and Wraps,” that is a really healthy alternative to fast food. I had a pesto chicken wrap with jasmine rice and baby spinach. It was all wrapped up in a sun-dried tomato wrap, and served with house-made baked tortilla chips! There was a little bar with a yummy hummus, pico de gallo, a zesty jalapeno-cilantro sauce, and more! It was healthy, affordable, and delicious! Then, we went and met up with Josh and Alex and watched The Hunger Games in D-box seats that actually move during all the action sequences! AWESOME! From there, the boys dropped Alex and I off at the Lady Antebellum concert, and Alex and I walked in to find that our seats were fabulous! We jammed with Darius Rucker, who did some Hootie and the Blowfish tunes, too….and then it was Lady A time! They sang my favorites, and it was an awesome night!*

Anyways, back to the running! I have this itch, and I also have a luscious head of hair. And I cannot…or should I say, I will not, run in the rain and ruin it. So then, I figured I would go to the gym, but I feel like I shouldn’t be driving in this weather. Problem is, I had this brilliant idea and no comparable substitutions here at home. So I plan to complete this post, and then take my luscious-headed self out to my car, and head to 24 Hr Fitness.

....what they said!

Tomorrow, I start my 4 day Detox. My detox is a little different than some of the more extreme ones I’ve tried in the past, but it is what I consider to be my best shot and breaking into that 100’s zone on the scale. Quite frankly, if I step on there one more time and see it hit at EXACTLY 200 lbs? I’ll go ham sandwich crazy!

And those of you who know the background behind that phrase? You know that it’s no bueno!

Here’s how my 4 Day Detox is set up:

1. Swap meat for fish or nuts. I will probably opt not to eat meat altogether, for the sake of simplicity. But I do have some individually sized cans of tuna on hand just in case.

2. All fruits and veggies, all the time. I will supplement with protein powder and real-fruit protein smoothies. Hummus, peanut butter, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, roasted veggies….all ok. But no meat, rice, potatoes…..etc.

Did you know? Fresh pineapple contains bromelain, which aids in digestion. Grapes are excellent for cleansing the liver and kidneys. Tomatoes, carrots, and apples are rich in Vitamin C and E, which help fight free radicals.

3. I will drink at least 80 oz of water per day, and I am also going to try to drink herbal tea more regularly as well.

Did you know? Dandelion tea is said to be excellent for detoxification.

4. In addition, I plan to use this detox as the kick-off for reaching one of my biggest fears/post-op goals:

I am going to try to be a runner.

Running is an excellent total-body workout, and after the way life has been flying by lately, I think I can really benefit from it’s stress-relieving benefits, too!

I have always admired people who run for sport and hobby, rather than because it’s for a grade or to punish themselves. I would really like to be one of those people. And after losing over 100 pounds, I think it’s time to give myself some credit, stop being so afraid, and go after it!

I know I can do it. And I know it won’t necessarily be easy to find my stride. But hey, anything worth having is worth working for, as they say!

And so, I am going to go to the gym, and I am going to pass my beloved elliptical and stationary bike….and hit the treadmill. I plan to do some interval training. 2 minutes walking, 1 minute running. And eventually, I hope to walk for one minute, and run for two. From there, I think I will get it together. And then I can enjoy the scenery around me and run in the great outdoors (provided there is no rain, of course 🙂 )

It can be really hard to face your fears. I am scared of running, because I am scared of failing. I am scared of being below average, and I am scared that I might be inadequate.

But you know what? I was scared of dying young due to Obesity, too. And you see that I’m trying to kick that problem where the sun doesn’t shine.

So, wish me luck!

If you don’t hear from me, please make a trip the 24 Hour Fitness in Vista, and see if they left my body in the locker room. Lol.

Here’s wishing everyone a sane and productive work week! I, for one, am unbearably excited to head to Anaheim with Sean this weekend. He hasn’t been to Disneyland since he was a kid, and I am stoked that he got a pass so he can go with me now. We are starting with his favorite, Indiana Jones! This is gonna be good times!

I just have to get through this detox first! WOOT WOOT!

    wow i loved reading this !! I also am a fan of Dandelion Root 🙂 i have suplements when i cant brew a cup of tea. It was so nice reading all the things that you said about pushing yourself to succede becuase thats what so many other people go through as well. They are scared of failure. I personaly was terrified of the treamil beause i was self consious if that i wasnt doing it right. My feet sounded loud and was i looking like a injured pengiun running away from a preditor and i was worried about my butt jiggling to much.. but mostly i wasnt in shape to RUN so i thought it was pointles and i wasnt welcomed to be a part of the people who run on them. I did intervals and inclines and even walked on it badckwards in an incline and now i have ran a couple miles on one 🙂 and i am on my way to fitness !!

    keep it up!! i look forward to reading more 🙂

      Brooke, this comment CRACKED ME UP! “an injured penguin running from a predator.” HILARIOUS! I really appreciate your comment, and I hope to dispel some of my fears by just trying over and over again. I was able to do intervals of two minutes walking, 4 minutes running. Tonight, I am going to try walking two minutes, and running two minutes, but at higher speed. We shall see! As long as we keep trying, we are not failing. That’s my thought on that! Best of luck, and I look forward to reading more of your blog as well! 🙂

        haha yah thats what it looked like! haha yes interval training is the way to go! you will get there sure enough ( i also do a tiny incline of .5-1 to make it easier on my knees).
